Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer with a background in a highly regulated industry on a permanent basis, to be located in Bridgwater

Our Energy Power Programmes are delivering critical work for major UK and European energy projects. These include:


  • Hinkley Point C - New build power station in the South West

  • Sizewell C - Located in the South East

  • SMR Development - Supporting small modular reactor technologies

The Role: Mechanical Engineer


Are you an engineer with a passion for solving complex technical problems and collaborating across diverse teams? Amentum is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team, supporting a range of mechanical calculations, design assessments, and stakeholder engagements.

Key Responsibilities


  • Perform mechanical and piping calculations to support engineering designs

  • Gather and analyse input data, update hypothesis notes, and prepare loading description reports

  • Conduct mechanical stress analysis on electrical supports (e.g. cable trays)

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to implement engineering modifications

  • Use hand calculations to assess feasibility of proposed solutions

  • Review and check calculation notes and technical drawings

  • Identify and propose improvements to existing processes and designs


Qualifications & Skills


Essential:


  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering/science discipline

  • Working knowledge of standards such as Eurocode, ASME, or RCC-M

  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D design software

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to produce clear, accurate technical documentation

  • Excellent organisation and time-management abilities


Desirable:


  • Background or experience in nuclear engineering

  • Familiarity with electrical design principles

  • Programming skills, especially in Python
