Job Title: Senior Design Electrical Engineer Location: Chorley, UK Sectors: Mining Nuclear Rail Agriculture Food Biowaste Contract Type: Permanent Projects Secured: Over £200 million in awarded projects Company Overview Our client is a well-established infrastructure solutions provider and operator of multiple critical energy and industrial sites across the UK. With a growing pipeline of high-value projects, they are looking to expand their engineering capabilities with the addition of a skilled Senior Electrical Design Engineer based in Chorley. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on diverse and challenging design projects across sectors such as nuclear, mining, food, and renewable energy, and to play a key role in delivering engineering excellence across the full project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities -
Lead the electrical design delivery across a variety of complex projects in demanding environments. -
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers from mechanical, process, and project teams, as well as external contractors and functional managers. -
Act as the technical point of contact with clients, managing technical scope, resolving queries, and supporting risk identification and mitigation. -
Develop concept designs, load schedules, component specs, and support bid teams with time/resource estimates. -
Review and interpret client specifications, project contracts, and electrical engineering schedules during handover and project execution. -
Contribute to value engineering and continuous improvement practices. -
Ensure compliance with current regulations and standards, including the latest IET Wiring Regulations, CE/UKCA directives, and ATEX guidance. Qualifications & Experience -
HNC (or higher) in Electrical and/or Controls Engineering. -
Proven experience leading electrical engineering design teams, particularly within contract/project environments. -
Strong knowledge of material handling systems, including control systems used in harsh and industrial conditions. -
Familiarity with mechanical processes and their role in system design. -
Proficient in specifying and selecting electrical distribution, control, and protection systems. -
Solid understanding of design risk assessments, CDM regulations, and safety standards. -
Confident in client-facing roles, including active participation in design and technical meetings. -
Experience with ATEX environments and the influence of hazardous zones on system design is highly desirable. What s in it for you? -
